Biography

What happens if a patient’s implanted defibrillator’s energy supply fails at the point of critical need?

Energy efficiency and reliability are two important design objectives in embedded safety- and mission-critical systems. Hakan Aydin has earned several grants for his research in a variety of hardware-related computer vulnerabilities, particularly in equipment used to maintain continuity of systems that deliver crucial functions. Notably, a CSR grant from the National Science Foundation has provided the funding to explore reliability-centric real-time computing on heterogeneous chip multiprocessor systems. Aydin’s analysis and exploration of this concept was recently included in the proceedings of the 20th Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium in which his research proposes a dual-queue system that provides energy efficient operation and reliability of devices people depend on to work at a moment’s notice. Further research areas include: Computer Systems, Parallel and Distributed Systems, Fault Tolerance, Power-Aware Computing, Real-Time, and Embedded Systems.
