Mason Engineering department hosts regional capstone competition

Mason Engineering’s Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research will hosted the Andrew Sage capstone competition on Monday May 7.

The competition replaced the usual senior presentations. This is the first time the department has hosted a competition. There were 28 papers from teams from Mason, Virginia Tech, Stevens Institute of Technology, The United States Military Academy, The United States Naval Academy and the University of Pennsylvania.

The competition honors Andrew P. Sage, the founding dean of the Volgenau School, a pioneer and leader in systems engineering, a prolific author, and a dedicated educator.

“Sage had an extraordinary impact on the school,” says John Shortle. “It’s appropriate that we honor him with this event.”

Registration for the competition began at 8:00 a.m. in Research Hall 163 and the conference concluded with an awards banquet in the evening.
